Steven Gerrard is reportedly 'in talks' to become manager of the Poland national team.

Poland parted ways with Czeslaw Michniewicz last month following a 3-1 defeat to France in the World Cup round of 16.

Supporters were dismayed with Poland's performances in Qatar, who only managed to score three goals despite having Robert Lewandowski up front.

Per Meczyki, the Polish FA have already made contact with Gerrard regarding the vacant manager's position.

The 42-year-old, who previously managed Premier League outfit Aston Villa, is said to be considering the offer.

Other names included on the shortlist are Roberto Martinez, who became Portugal's manager on Monday after being sacked by Belgium.

Herve Renard, manager of Saudi Arabia who masterminded a stunning 2-1 victory over eventual World Cup winners Argentina, was considered too.

Should Gerrard take the job, he'll be reunited with Villa star Matty Cash. The full-back made his debut for Poland in 2021 after applying for a Polish passport.

Gerrard started his managerial career with Scottish Premiership giants Rangers in 2018 following a short stint with Liverpool's U18s and U19s.

The former Reds captain won the club's first title for 10 years in 2021, managing to go an entire year unbeaten.

He moved to Villa later that year for a crack at management in the English top-flight.

After guiding Villa to 14th in his debut campaign, Gerrard was sacked following a 3-0 defeat to Fulham in October.

Villa replaced him with Unai Emery, who has managed to turn their fortunes around.

After being sacked, Gerrard said: "I would like to thank everyone connected to Aston Villa Football Club, for the support shown to me during my time there. I would personally like to thank the board of directors, the players and all the staff for their hard work.

"To the fans, it is regrettable that it didn’t work out in the end, but I owe you a debt of gratitude for the way you welcomed me into your club, and continued to push the team on during difficult times.

"Aston Villa is a club with a special history, I really wanted to bring back those memorable achievements, unfortunately it wasn’t to be. I wish everyone at the club all the very best for the future."
