Spurs new boy Ivan Perisic has been added as a defender for the upcoming Fantasy Football season and at a bargain price of just £5.5 million, the Croatian will certainly be a popular pick ahead of next month's opener.

The 33-year-old, who notched eight goals and seven assists for Inter Milan in 2021/22 while playing as a left-sided wing-back, will reunite with former boss Antonio Conte after he penned a two-year deal with the Premier League club.

Perisic, who has played in multiple positions throughout his respected career for club and country, will bring plenty of versatility to the squad.

He has also been deployed as both an attacking midfielder and a second striker in the past, but the guys over at Fantasy Premier League have decided to give him a defender slot for the 2022/23 campaign.

So far, a hefty 49.3% of users have decided to select Perisic in their team, with only three players [Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold] more popular.

The Fantasy Premier League's decision to deploy the versatile Perisic as a defender has brought plenty of reaction from social media.

One fan said: "Although everyone will pick him, I’m definitely most excited about Perisic being listed as a defender in FPL. It’s actually a dream. A wingback that will score and assist and also can deputize in the front three."

Another wrote: "Perisic as a defender is literally a steal," while a third commented: "Ivan Perisic as a defender on Fantasy Football is a must have for sure."

A fourth said: "An intersting price reveal for Perisic as defender. If he plays everygame then it is no brainer to not have him."

Spurs' opening six Premier League fixtures could provide huge points for users who decided to splash £5.5 million on Perisic.

They come up against Southampton at home on the first day, with games against Chelsea, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, West Ham and Fulham to follow.

Will you be putting Perisic in your team ahead of the opening day?
