Southampton has well and truly had the last laugh after Everton fans set fireworks off outside their hotel over the weekend.

The Saints travelled to Liverpool for their fixture against The Toffees and were met with a less-than-friendly welcome.

A not yet-identified group attempted to throw off Southampton’s preparations for the game by disrupting their important pre-game night’s rest.

The Sun reports that fireworks were set off outside of the visitor’s hotel during the early hours of Saturday (January 14) morning.

Of course, they were hoping an early-morning wake-up for Nathan Jones’ men would throw them off for that day’s game.

It definitely didn’t have the desired impact as Southampton went on to win the game 2-1 thanks to a brace by James Ward-Prowse.

As if the loss to the relegation battlers wasn’t hard enough, the Saints decided to get one back with a hilarious troll via Tripadvisor.

Rubbing salt into the wounds of Everton fans, the St Mary’s outfit claimed they had ‘the best night’s sleep ever’.

The review was titled: “Great trip and best night’s sleep ever!”

The feedback read: “We can't say enough positive things about the Innside By Melia Liverpool!

"Had an important business trip to attend in the city and they were perfect hosts.

"The hotel ensured we were looked after and well-rested for our meeting, which was an extremely productive one.

"Rooms were brilliant, beds were incredibly comfy, and the blackout blinds and triple glazing… oh wow!

"You could literally have a firework display going on outside your window and you'd never know it. Best night's sleep we've ever had!

"In fact, the only rocket we noticed all weekend was the one James Ward-Prowse sent into the net in the 78th minute at Goodison. We'll definitely be returning again."

Someone give the Saint’s media team a raise.

It’s not the first time they’ve headed over to Tripadvisor to have a bit of fun either.

In 2018 they left a one-star review of the Marriott Hotel in Swansea after their 40 room booking was cancelled with 24 hours' notice.

Southampton was told the rooms couldn’t be reserved for big groups despite being available to other guests.

They had to find alternative accommodation just one day before the fixture.
