Furious fans have flocked to social media and lambasted Sky Sports after it emerged that Saturday Social will soon replace the much-beloved Soccer AM show.

Fans on Wednesday were left devastated after reports emerged that Soccer AM would be axed at the end of the season following its 28 years on the air.

The highly popular show became a staple part of fans’ schedules and saw huge success during different periods, including when it was hosted by Tim Lovejoy and Helen Chamberlain.

Sky revealed that it would be going through “a period of consultation to discuss the proposed changes with our people” after Soccer AM was axed.

“Soccer AM has played an important role in our coverage of football for the past three decades, and we continually adapt to the evolving needs of our customers,” a Sky spokesperson explained.

“We now go into a period of consultation to discuss the proposed changes with our people.

“We are unable to provide more detail while these consultations are underway.”

According to The Daily Mirror, Sky is set to move its Saturday Social show from the 9:30am slot to the 10:30am spot once the current Premier League season is done.

The news that Saturday Social, which features popular YouTubers from different teams, will be taking Soccer AM’s place after the end of the 2022-23 Premier League season ruffled the feathers of fans on social media.

“Saturday Social replacing Soccer AM. Nah, f**k that, lads,” one fan said.

Someone else commented: “Replacing Soccer AM with Saturday Social is the equivalent to binning your 20-year-old Walkman and replacing it with s****y off-brand AirPods instead.”

Another added: “Gutted. It [Soccer AM] was still trying to be proper footy laughs. That Saturday Social is a load of s***e, not this!”

“Replacing [Soccer AM] with Saturday Social is like replacing [Cristiano] Ronaldo with [Gabriel] Obertan,” a fourth wrote.

And a fifth posted: “Bring back Soccer AM! You should be axing Saturday Social!”

While one Twitter user tweeted: “Although, [Soccer AM] betting binned off [while] shows like Saturday Social are still on [the] air is mind-blowing.”
