Manchester United fans are all saying the same thing in the wake of Everton’s impending takeover falling through.

On Friday it emerged that Everton’s talks with the Friedkin Group over a takeover of the club have been called off amid the two parties failing to come to an agreement.

Roma owners The Friedkin Group had agreed a deal in principle to take over the Premier League outfit in June and granted exclusivity in talks after a deal to sell to 777 Partners broke down.

The Friedkin Group and Everton's current ownership group Blue Heaven Holdings said in a joint statement: "The parties agree it is in both their interests for Everton to explore alternative options.” The statement added that The Friedkin Group, which injected £200m into the club, will "remain a lender to the club".

In turn, Farhad Moshiri, who bought a 49.9 per cent share in Everton in 2016, is now the club's majority owner through Blue Heaven Holdings. The businessman has faced growing criticism from supporters after the club posted losses of just shy of £400m for the four years between 2019 and 2023.

Such losses saw the club docked some eight points by the Premier League last term for breaching profit and sustainability rules.

With Everton’s financial situation appearing dire, United fans are now questioning whether the club will reignite their interest in Jarrad Branthwaite.

United made two offers for Branthwaite, worth £35million rising to £43million and £45million rising to £50million, before signing 18-year-old centre-back Leny Yoro from Lille instead.

However, fans on X have speculated whether United could go back in for Branthwaite.

One person said: “Bad couple of days for Everton…

“Go offer £10m cash and a bag of salt for Branthwaite just for the banter.”

Another added: “Everton fans tears will full TL again when Man Utd sign Branthwaite for 40m + 5m add-ons. Bring it on, I need it...”

A third said: “Everton will accept Man Utd offer of 35m for branthwaite now

“Your deal’s fallen through. Man Utd should just chuck the £60m + £10m in to buy Everton.. Forget Branthwaite”
