Football fan in the doghouse with girlfriend after trying to organise romantic weekend that was actually an away day

Joe Taylor has gone viral for asking girlfriend Georgia Grayson to go for a romantic weekend away to watch Sheffield Wednesday.

A Sheffield Wednesday fan has gone viral after an unsuccessful attempt to try and pass a romantic weekend off as an away day trip.

25-year-old Joe Taylor has found himself in the doghouse with girlfriend Georgia Grayson as a result of the ploy and was even told "You're dumped".

He posted screenshots of his text messages with his other half, who he told about his idea of doing a weekend away together.

Joe told the 21-year-old that he was going to take her "someplace nice" and that the couple "deserve it". The 10th September was mentioned as a date and it worked for Georgia as she was off work for three days in a row.

"That's cute" was the comment from Georgia, who was clearly looking forward to a nice little getaway.

"Down south by the coast" was the location but this was surely when Georgia started to get an idea that something was a bit fishy.

On that very date, Sheff Wednesday travel to Plymouth Argyle in League One and Joe fancied a 600-mile round trip to watch the Owls.

Unfortunately for Joe, Georgia clicked on and after a brutal rejection and being told he was "dumped", he is now looking for "fresh applicants".

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post: "Her reaction was pretty much as showed on the messages, she said she was going to dump me. I am in the absolute doghouse."

However, he did also say that the plans to go to Home Park for the big clash have not been nixed and the outing is still on the cards.

Joe is raising money for free different charities - the British Heart Foundation, Bluebell Wood Hospice and Headway the brain injury association - and completed a coast to coast walk from Cleethorpes to Liverpool this month.

The fundraising is being done in honour his father Paul, who passed away in December 2019.

The figure raised stands at ยฃ6,800 so far and the Taylor family are looking to add an extra ยฃ3,000 to split the total fee across the three charities.
