Manchester United have named their price for Scott McTominay

McTominay has been linked with a move to Newcastle United recently, but he showed his worth to Manchester United with a goal vs Everton.

Manchester United have named their price for Scott McTominay, as rivals for the Champions League places, Newcastle United, eye a move for the midfielder.

'Goalscoring hero' isn't usually a description that one would expect to see next to McTominay's name, but that's the only apt way to describe him at the moment.

The Scotsman scored four times in two appearances whilst on international duty recently, including two goals as Scotland shocked Spain in a Euro 2024 qualifier.

It took him a couple of games to bring that scoring form back to his club, but on Saturday afternoon he notched up a rather important one for Erik ten Hag's side.

The Carabao Cup winners were coming up against Everton at Old Trafford, as they continued their attempts to chase a top four position.

They absolutely dominated the first half but, through a mixture of Jordan Pickford's form, some wayward finishing and maybe even a curse, it didn't look like they would break the deadlock.

That's when McTominay remembered he's a world class finisher, and buried the ball after a lovely move from Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

With a one-a-game record for the past five matches it's no wonder that other teams are interested in signing him in the summer, specifically Newcastle.

According to the Daily Star, Eddie Howe's side have been told they must cough up £50 million, in order to take the Old Trafford academy graduate up to the north east.

It might seem like a very steep price for the 26-year-old, who is mostly used as a squad player for Ten Hag, but in many ways it makes sense.

Newcastle are now rivals for the 13 time Premier League winners, both this season and likely in the future too, and they wouldn't be too keen on strengthening the Saudi Arabian owned club.

As a home grown British player he has added value, despite not playing for England, with Newcastle having to balance signing superstars with home grown talent.

And finally, the Red Devils wanted to bring Sean Longstaff to Old Trafford a few years ago and the Magpies wanted a similar price for the midfielder.

Longstaff didn't have the type of experience that McTominay does, and the two sides weren't exactly close in the table at the time.

Speaking about the Scotland star after the game, Ten Hag said, "Great player, great personality. So happy I have him in my squad – he gives all his energy, never gives up, so it’s great."

The problem for McTominay is that Casemiro will return to action on Thursday night, in the Europa League, and will be available for next weekend's league game against Nottingham Forest, after finishing his four game suspension.

Christian Eriksen also returned to action on Saturday, after an injury in which he missed 16 games, knocking McTominay further down the pecking order.
