Manchester United Linked With Sean Longstaff And Emre Can January Moves

Manchester United are on the hunt for midfielders in the January transfer window and amongst their targets are Newcastle United's Sean Longstaff and Juventus' forgotten man Emre Can.

Wednesday evening's loss to Arsenal shone a light on United's issues in the centre of the park with the much improved Fred having to play every minute of their Christmas - New Year period.

The Brazilian was paired with Nemanja Matic, who has barely played this season, in the absence of the injured duo of Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba and each are likely to be out for a few weeks yet.

According to ESPN both Longstaff, who they were linked with in the summer, and Can, who has only played seven times for Juve, are amongst their targets.

Longstaff was heavily linked with moving to Old Trafford in the summer, after impressing in his first season in the Premier League with the Magpies last season, and the club reportedly wanted £50 million for the 22-year-old.

That valuation was never met by United, who had seen Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera leave in the previous six months.

The midfielder hasn't started for Steve Bruce since the 4-1 loss to United and he has only started nine league games for the club this season.

Can moved to Italy in 2018 on a free transfer, after four years impressing at Liverpool, but his move to the Allianz Stadium hasn't gone well at all and he's found himself out of the team for much of the season.

The German midfielder wanted to leave the Old Lady in the summer but was told he would play a part in the team so stayed, only to be kept out of the Champions League squad and barely feature since.

The prospect of signing either man is likely to encourage fans of the club but they'll be no doubting that Solskjaer's side do need more players in the middle of the pitch.

As well as central midfielders there is also a need for a number 10 with Jesse Lingard without a goal in over a year and another poor performance against Arsenal.

Who will United sign in the summer?
