Sadio Mane has set Liverpool a huge wage demand for him to sign a new contract at the club, according to The Mirror.

The forward is out of contract at the end of next season, and he looks all but gone after rumours to Bayern Munich look concrete, with the German champions set to give him around £17m a year - equating to around £325,000 a week.

The Senegalese international’s demands are similar to those of Mohamed Salah, who wants to earn around £400,000 a week at Anfield.

Both are 30 this summer, and with time running down, both see their next contract as the biggest and most important of their career. Both feel they are now in the elite bracket of the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Kevin De Bruyne, Cristiano Ronaldo, Antoine Griezmann and David de Gea, who all earn over £350,000 per week.

Liverpool are a lot more reluctant in comparison to the free-spending Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Barcelona when it comes to extravagant wages. They have a firm wage structure which incorporates performance-related bonuses.

Virgil van Dijk is the current highest earner at Anfield on a base salary of £220,000 per week without bonuses, which would have been extortionate if Liverpool had pulled off the incredible quadruple.

The Reds aren’t willing to break the bank for a base salary because of the shortcomings of their north-west rivals Manchester United.

Alexis Sanchez, Edinson Cavani, Radamel Falcao and others have arrived on huge deals and not worked out at Old Trafford, but the difference with Mane and Salah is that they’re already established at the top of the game.

They are undoubtedly at the peak of their powers but at 30 years old, it is tough to gauge how long their peak will last.
