Ryan Giggs' Claim That Man United Would NEVER Collapse Like Liverpool Goes Viral Again, Shows How Far They Have Fallen

Ryan Giggs insisted that Sir Alex Ferguson was laying the foundation for Man United. However, the Red Devils are miles behind Liverpool now.

Ryan Giggs’ staunch belief that Manchester United could never collapse as Liverpool did has once again been brought into the spotlight on social media.

The United legend, 48, spent his entire remarkable playing career at Old Trafford and lifted a record 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, four FA Cups and three League Cups.

Giggs, who retired from football in 2014, was on the coaching staff under David Moyes and later became assistant manager under Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

However, the Welshman was convinced that United would not face the same crisis Liverpool once did due to Sir Alex Ferguson building a foundation for the future.

Ahead of United’s FA Cup tie with Liverpool in 2011, the Reds were only four points above the relegation zone and Roy Hodgson was on the verge of being sacked.

Giggs claimed that legendary ex-United boss Ferguson snapped up players “with a view to the future” and pointed to the likes of Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling.

“Our manager is not always looking just for this season,” he explained.

“He buys players with a view to the future, which he’s done more and more over the last few years.

“He’s bought players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Anderson and Nani -- all young players who have got the ability to go on and be better, and all of whom have done that.

“Now we’ve got the next batch, the likes of Javier Hernandez, Rafael and Fabio Da Silva, Gabriel Obertan and Chris Smalling, all young players who will hopefully get better over the next few years.

“The manager is experienced enough to know that we’ll be challenging for the league this season and long after that because of the nucleus of the squad we have, as well as adding fresh blood, which gives everyone a lift.”

Giggs’ comments have continued to age poorly for United fans, with rival fans now using his remarks to taunt Red Devils supporters on Twitter.

United have failed to secure any major silverware since Jose Mourinho led the Premier League club to the Europa League title in 2017 after a 2-0 win over Ajax.

None of United’s managerial appointments post-Ferguson have led the club to the Premier League title, with Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having all been sacked.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have had a remarkable turnaround and successfully overcame the crisis that engulfed the club for a long period of time.

Jurgen Klopp’s arrival at Liverpool in 2015 saw the Reds capture the Champions League trophy in 2019 before securing a long-awaited Premier League title in 2020.
