Brazil legend Ronaldo believes that Karim Benzema is the best striker in the world ahead of Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski.

Benzema has been in sensational goalscoring form this season and bagged an impressive 24 times in 28 appearances for Real Madrid.

The 34-year-old striker was recalled by France for Euro 2020 last summer and also secured his first major international silverware with the Nations League title.

Lewandowski has also been in remarkable form for club and country and scored a staggering 69 times in a calendar year.

The 33-year-old Polish striker’s predatory finishing has seen him score an incredible 34 times in 28 appearances for Bayern this season.

Lewandowski’s stunning goalscoring exploits earned him second place in the race for the 2021 Ballon d’Or, with Lionel Messi scooping the award for the seventh time.

Ronaldo has insisted that both Benzema and Lewandowski are head and shoulders above the rest of the strikers in the world right now.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel Bobo TV (via Football Italia), he said: “Benzema, no doubts about it. Lewandowski after him.”

Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe have emerged as two of Europe’s fastest-rising stars and both players’ futures are uncertain in the summer.

Mbappe, 23, is out of contract in the summer and the Paris Saint-Germain superstar has reportedly received a staggering contract offer from Madrid.

Haaland has a £68m release clause in his Borussia Dortmund contract and has been linked with Manchester United, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Ronaldo, 45, has tipped the 21-year-old Dortmund star to become the No 1 striker in the world after Benzema and Lewandowski.

“Haaland will become the No 1, but the other two are better than him at the moment,” he said.

“Mbappe is also really strong. I’ve read he’s signed a €50m [£42m]-a-year contract with Real Madrid. Surely, we played at the wrong time.”
