Robert Lewandowski was reduced to tears as he scored his first World Cup goal in a hugely emotional moment.

The Barcelona forward scored Poland's second goal in their 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia at the World Cup on Saturday.

He pounced on a Saudi mistake then slotted home in the 82nd minute and broke down in tears during his celebration.

The goal meant so much to the 34-year-old as he shed a tear while celebrating with his teammates.

It's Lewandowski's 77th goal of his international career as he equals Brazil legend Pele's record.

And his emotional celebration didn't go unnoticed by fans social media.

One Twitter user wrote: "Lewandowski in tears in after scoring his first goal in a World Cup. The beautiful game."

A second tweeted: "Tears, absolute tears, for Robert Lewandowski. He has finally scored at a World Cup. What emotion."

A third added: "That goal really meant a lot to Lewandowski."

A fourth commented: "The tears in his eyes shows how much that goal meant to him."

Another said: "Who says Champions League or even the European Championship is better than the World Cup when Robert Lewandowski shades [sic] tears like a rookie on debut scoring a goal for his own country?"

Piotr Zielinski gave side the lead in the 39th minute, with Wojciech Szczesny producing a stunning double save to deny Saudi from levelling just before the break.

Lewandowski wrapped up the points eight minutes from time.

As it stands, Poland sit at the top of Group B with four points on the board, one point ahead of second-placed Saudi Arabia.

They face Argentina in the final game of the group stage round.
