'Hand it to him ASAP!' - Rio Ferdinand claims two Premier League awards have already been decided

'Hand it to him ASAP!' - Rio Ferdinand claims two Premier League awards have already been decided

Rio Ferdinand took to Twitter and offered his thoughts on the awards for Premier League Young Player of the Season and Player of the Season.

Rio Ferdinand has insisted that in-form Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and Arsenal starlet Bukayo Saka have already locked down Premier League awards.

Haaland, who signed for City in the summer, is the runaway favourite to win the Premier League Golden Boot this season after his explosive start to life in England.

The 22-year-old Norwegian striker scored in City’s 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday, with Haaland taking his Premier League goalscoring tally to 21 this season.

Harry Kane is a distant second to Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot, with Brentford striker Ivan Toney one shy of the Tottenham star’s tally.

Saka, meanwhile, was in brilliant form for England at the World Cup in Qatar after a spectacular start with Premier League leaders Arsenal this season.

The 21-year-old Gunners star took his Premier League goalscoring tally to six in Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Brighton at the Amex on Saturday.

Ferdinand on Saturday took to Twitter and called for Saka to be handed the Premier League Young Player of the Season award “ASAP.”

The Manchester United legend also added that Haaland should receive the Premier League Player of the Season award after his scintillating impact at City.

Ferdinand tweeted: “Saka is the Premier League’s Young Player of the Year already... hand it to him ASAP... and give Haaland the senior award, too, while you’re at it!”

Haaland is eligible for the Young Player of the Season award and could challenge Saka for the prize, which is decided via a fan vote towards the tail end of the season.

Phil Foden has won back-to-back Young Player of the Season awards, with Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold the first to win the prize.
