Real Madrid’s departing stars were given a wonderful send-off by the rest of the squad after their La Liga campaign came to a close.

On Sunday evening, Madrid ended their 22/23 campaign with a disappointing draw against Athletic Bilbao.

Departing striker Karim Benzema scored on his last appearance for Los Blancos after Oihan Sancet gave Bilbao the lead after 49 minutes.

As a result of the draw, Carlo Ancelotti's side end the season in second place with 78 points.

At the end of the match, Benzema, along with Marco Asensio, Eden Hazard and Mariano Diaz were given a resounding send-off by their teammates.

One by one, they were lifted into the air by the rest of the team in front of the crowd as their glittering Madrid chapters came to a close.

Although the departures of Asensio, Mariano and Hazard were somewhat expected, the news of Benzema leaving came as a bit of a shock.

In a statement, Madrid said: “Real Madrid CF and our captain Karim Benzema have agreed to end his brilliant and unforgettable period as a player for our club.

“Real Madrid wants to show its gratitude and all its affection for who is already one of our greatest legends.

“Karim Benzema arrived at our club in 2009, at just 21 years of age, and has been a fundamental player in this golden age of our history. During the fourteen seasons in which he has defended our shield and our shirt, he has won 25 titles, a record number for Real Madrid: 5 European Cups, 5 Club World Cups, 4 European Super Cups, 4 Leagues, 3 Copas del Rey and 4 Spanish Super Cups.”

All eyes will now be firmly fixed on Benzema’s every move as the football world waits for the announcement of the Frenchman’s next club.
