Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nubel was given a straight red card for a truly horrific 'karate kick' challenge on Frankfurt midfielder Mijat Gacinovic during Sunday's Bundesliga clash.
The German shot stopper rushed off his line in the 66th minute but instead of connecting with the ball, Nubel struck his opponent with a devastating kick to the chest, reminiscent of Nigel de Jong's infamous challenge on Xabi Alonso in the 2010 World Cup final.
Gacinovic lay on the floor in a heap as referee Felix Zwayer produced one of the most deserved red cards in football history.
Remarkably, Gacinovic left the Veltins Arena with only a number of cuts and bruises.

The 24-year-old midfielder took to Instagram shortly after full-time to reveal the full extent of his injuries.
He also confirmed he was "fine" after the shocking incident, and thanked goalkeeper Nubel for apologising.
"Unfortunately, such clashes sometimes happen in the fight for the ball." he wrote.
"Nubel, Thank you for immediately apologizing. This can happen in football. However, I can tell you that I am fine despite a severe bruised rib. Thanks for all your encouraging messages!"

Schalke went on to secure all three points in the Bundesliga clash thanks to a 53rd minute goal from Benito Raman.
David Wagner's side moved up to fourth in the league table, while Eintracht remain towards the bottom of the ladder in 12th position, just six points above the relegation zone.
It was a scrappy game from start to finish, but it was this karate kick moment that grabbed the headlines.
Thoughts on the challenge?
