Spurs Troll Their Own Fans With Fake 'Transfer' Announcement

Spurs Troll Their Own Fans With Fake 'Transfer' Announcement

Fans of Tottenham were not happy after the club failed to deliver on a huge hint of a transfer.

Rival fans can troll opposition teams easily enough on Twitter without needing help from the club that fans support themselves. However Spurs decided to anger a lot of their fans themselves.

The transfer window is a tricky time for social media teams throughout the world. Fans are so desperate for their clubs to announce signings that any tweet not about transfers is met with anger and a plethora of "ANNOUNCE...." reply tweets.

Announcing a friendly? "ANNOUNCE LUKAKU." Telling everyone it's the anniversary of something? "ANNOUNCE MORATA." Celebrating a player's birthday? "ANNOUNCE MBAPPE." Clubs can't get away from it.

Clubs can use it to their advantage though by teasing the announcement of a signing before it gets done, that means heightened interest in the club's next tweet and an excited fan base.

So when Spurs fans saw their team's tweet today they must have been wet with excitement:

They even added the "In the know" hashtag. So you're wondering who it is right? Could it be Dortmund's Matthias Ginter, perhaps Monaco's Thomas Lemar, or someone even bigger?

Well..

That's right the big announcement from White Hart Lane, or whatever is currently left of it, it the fact there's a sale on, not exactly the news that fans would have been expecting or hoping for.

If it's 50% off sales then Spurs fans will at least be hoping that someone picks up Moussa Sissoko, although ยฃ17.5 million still seems a lot!

It's not the worst occasion of fans being trolled by their own club. Leeds United's twitter page once told fans on transfer deadline day not to go to bed as there was news to come, they then sold two players. Wow!

ANNOUNCE A NEW SOCIAL MEDIA TEAM!
