Kylian Mbappe has just scored one of the strangest goals you'll ever see, it makes no sense

Fans inside the Parc des Princes were left scratching their heads on Sunday, when Kylian Mbappe scored one of the easiest – and most bizarre – goals of his career to date.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward netted his 42nd goal of the season in their Ligue 1 clash against FC Lorient.

Enzo Le Fee opened the scoring for Regis Le Bris' side in the opening stages but Mbappe equalised with a bizarre sequence that involved him stealing the ball from goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo.

As you can see in the footage below, Mvogo placed the ball down without a care in the world and moments later, a switched-on Mbappe pounced to fire the ball into an empty net.

Mbappe, with a cheeky grin on his face, looked on as the Lorient players surrounded referee Jerome Brisard.

"That is one of the strangest, and perhaps most ludicrous goals, you'll see a side concede," said the BT Sport commentator.

"There will be conversations about whether Jerome Brisard had paused the game after Mbappe went down, or whether Yvon Mvogo had collected the ball and play was continuing."

Ten minutes later, underdogs Lorient managed to retake the lead thanks to a goal from Darlin Yongwa.

Here's how social media reacted to the events on Sunday afternoon.

One said: "Yvon Mvogo, the Lorient keeper, thinks that the referee has given a free kick. He puts the ball on the floor to take it except that the referee hasn’t given anything and Kylian just pushes the ball in the empty net! Incredible goal to score and to concede!"

A second wrote: "Shocking keeping. Intelligent play by Mbappe," while a third commented: "Sportsmanship is horrendous these days. I’d be ashamed to celebrate that. Mbappe running away like he’s just scored a banger."

A fourth added: "It wasn’t a free kick, it wasn’t a goal kick. The keeper just had possession and rolled it out in front of him next to the opposition striker, and so he scored, it’s stupid goalkeeping, nothing else."

Thoughts on the goal? Do you understand why some Lorient players felt aggrieved by the decision?
