Liverpool fans are 'furious' with first half performance of key player, it's got everyone talking

A nervy opening half at the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool fans are furious with Alisson's performance in the first half of this afternoon's showdown with Manchester City.

The Reds travelled to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, knowing despite it being November, it could define the Premier League title race.

Jurgen Klopp's side entered the game second in the table and one point behind current leaders and reigning champions City.

Both teams know one another well, resulting in a cagey opening 20 minutes.

Liverpool grew into the game and even had a chance to take the lead through Darwin Nunez, who failed to keep control of the ball.

City found themselves ahead moments later thanks to Erling Haaland's 50th Premier League goal. It was a fine finish from the Norway international, although it all came from an Alisson mistake.

The 31-year-old attempted to find Mohamed Salah with a long ball as he has done several times in the past.

His miskick ended up in the path of Nathan Ake, who danced through two Liverpool challenges with ease.

Ake released Haaland, who made no mistake from close range to give the home side the lead.

Alisson's usually calm and collected in the Liverpool goal. This afternoon, it feels completely different.

He was nearly dispossessed by Phil Foden in the opening 11 minutes and had Haaland breathing down his neck while playing out from the back later on in the half.

Supporters on social media are concerned, considering Alisson's importance to the team.

One person said: "This is the guy they call the best goalkeeper in the league?"

A second put: "Ederson is showing him levels at the opposite end."

Someone tweeted: "Why does Alisson have to do this in our biggest game?"

While a fourth added: "Alisson, you need to fix up."
