Juventus 'on verge of completing sensational 2-for-1 player swap deal' with Premier League club

Juventus 'on verge of completing sensational 2-for-1 player swap deal' with Premier League club

Juventus manager Thiago Motta has given the green light and a deal is "more than close", according to Fabrizio Romano.

Highly-rated winger Samuel Iling-Junior is on the verge of joining Aston Villa in a double player-plus-cash swap deal that would see Douglas Luiz join Juventus.

Iling-Junior, who joined Juventus from Chelsea in 2020 following interest from a host of top European clubs, including PSG and Bayern Munich, impressed for the Italian side at youth level.

He was then promoted to the first-team squad in December 2022 after a memorable Champions League debut against Benfica that featured an assist for Arkadiusz Milik.

The 20-year-old, who has also represented England at youth level, made 27 appearances in all competitions for the Old Lady last season but it appears his time in Turin is coming to an end.

Iling-Junior and his Juventus teammate Weston McKennie are set to be involved in a swap deal for Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano says Juventus manager Thiago Motta has given the green light for the transfer to go ahead, with personal terms for all three players currently being discussed.

It has also been suggested that Villa will receive a €20 million [£16.8m] fee as part of the deal.

Douglas Luiz was crucial for the Villains last season as they secured Champions League football for the first time since 1983.

The Brazilian midfielder finished the 2023-24 campaign with ten goals in 53 appearances across all competitions.

Last month, Unai Emery was full of praise for the 26-year-old.

“Douglas Luiz is progressing a lot as a midfielder,” he said. “He is adding goals and getting into the box. Being demanding with him is always my challenge. His commitment to the team is increasing and I like how he’s been, not only in matches but when he’s training.

"I want to watch players performing in each practice, trying to improve and learn.”

McKennie, meanwhile, struggled during a six-month loan spell at Leeds United but that shouldn't deter Villa fans.

The USA international made 38 appearances for Juventus last season and was one of their most consistent performers, notching seven assists.
