Jamie Carragher delivered a masterclass when he came up against fellow pundit Gary Neville in an entertaining game of guess the footballer by his career path.

The former Liverpool defender, who made 737 appearances for the Reds during a 17-year career, has established himself as one of the country's best pundits since making his Sky Sports debut in 2013.

For many, Carragher is everything you want in an expert analyst. In fact, before he joined the ranks at Sky Sports ahead of the 2013/14 campaign, managing director Barney Francis summed up his influence.

"Jamie has everything you want; opinions, experience and incredible knowledge," said Francis.

"He's hugely respected throughout the game and I know his immense insight on today's players, teams and tactics will make our football coverage even better."

Carragher has continued to show that impressive knowledge and football IQ on a regular basis – and he did so again this week, when he came up against Gary Neville in a game of guess the career path.

The 45-year-old stamped his mark on the game after just one second, when he identified Peter Crouch's career that featured spells at Aston Villa, Southampton and Liverpool.

"You knew that one you fool," Neville replied, but Carragher didn't let up. In fact, he went on to win 9-2 thanks to some outstanding answers.

Here's how social media reacted to Carragher's efforts.

One fan said: "Yooo Carra has elite ball knowledge," while another commented: "Three hours later and i’m still fuming that Gary Neville thought Romelu Lukaku played for Spartak Moscow."

A third wrote: "Always thought my knowledge on football was good but Carragher is something else. Gary Neville is knowledge is 2/10 he fails these every time."

A fourth commented: "Carragher eats sleeps and breathes football. His knowledge is incredible no matter if you agree with him or like him or not. He’s an encyclopaedia."

A fifth added: "That is actually insane from Carragher."
