Ivan Toney slammed over Real Madrid transfer remark in new Brentford interview

Ivan Toney slammed over Real Madrid transfer remark in new Brentford interview

Toney's remark hasn't gone down well.

Brentford star Ivan Toney has been criticised for a remark about Real Madrid that he made in a new interview.

Toney returned to professional football in January after serving a nine-month ban for breaching FA gambling rules.

The striker made a successful comeback, scoring the opening goal in Brentford's 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.

He has since scored three more Premier League goals, and earned a recall to the England squad for upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

Toney is widely expected to leave Brentford this summer, and raised eyebrows earlier this year when he indicated he would be interested in a move away from the Bees - despite not yet returning from his ban.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank told Danish media that it is 'relatively obvious' that Toney will be sold this summer - although values him as one of the top strikers in world football.

Chelsea and Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for the 28-year-old - but the player himself has appeared to suggest that another club, or two, might be interested.

When asked by Sky Sports News about what his perfect end to the season and summer would look like, he said: "We start winning games - we win every game from now to the rest of the season. I've scored 20 goals, and we keep nine clean sheets.

"I want to be in the mix for the Euros, and then we win the Euros."

He then laughed: "Things fall into place. If Brentford was to sell me, they make their money, I move to Madrid and it's all good!"

Although Toney's Real Madrid comment appeared to be in jest, it didn't go down too well with fans.

One wrote: "This brother talks about leaving Brentford in every interview. No respect at all for his club."

Another said: "The way this man looks at the club that employs him."

And a third agreed: "It's pretty disrespectful to the club that stood by him whilst he was suspended."

And a fourth asked: "You have an agent? If you want a move, you can make it clear to every club in Europe that you want to move without doing an interview about it every week."
