Fans think Mateo Kovacic celebrated Chelsea's equaliser vs Man City as new footage emerges

They think he celebrated.

Fans think Mateo Kovacic celebrated Chelsea's equaliser against Manchester City.

In an enthralling 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge, Cole Palmer, a £40million summer signing from City, slotted home a stoppage-time penalty to deny Pep Guardiola's side all three points.

City thought they had claimed the win when Rodri's shot from the edge of the area deflected off Thiago Silva past Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez with four minutes of regular time to go.

But the draw sees City just a point clear of Liverpool at the Premier League summit, while Chelsea are in tenth, in much-improved form after a tumultuous start to the season.

After Palmer stayed cool to beat Ederson from the spot, Chelsea players wheeled away in celebration.

Meanwhile, fans have suggested Kovacic, who spent five years at Chelsea before securing a summer move to City, also celebrated Palmer’s equaliser at the death.

Indeed, footage, which can be seen below, appears to show the Croatia international first pumping as Palmer’s strike made its way into the net.

Writing on X, the social media platform formally known as Twitter, one Chelsea fan said: “Tears we might actually be crooks uno.”

Another wrote: “Oh My God, bring him home.”

A third said: “You can take the man out of Chelsea, but you can't take Chelsea out of the man.”

A fourth joked that the City player “might never play for City again.”

Meanwhile, a fifth person said: “Celebrating when he’s a city player bro forgot he doesn't play for them no more.”

After the game, two former City players, Raheem Sterling and Palmer, felt the Blues were unfortunate not to take all three points.

Sterling told Sky Sports: "It was a good game, we wanted to win the game and continue the win we got last week. We fought, went behind and came back, that shows the mentality of the team.

"There have been some setbacks, even after some disappointing results we are making those steps little by little.

"I had a great time at City, people know what I can do. It's just go out there and perform. The building block the team is doing, I'm proud to be part of it."

Palmer, who was standing alongside Sterling, added: "[It's the] very straight first time I played against City. I have great respect for the club I spent 15 years at. Great to see some friends, we were unlucky to get the win.

"I have many City fans at home, but it's the game."
