A lucky punter scooped thousands after they placed a 50p bet on last night's Premier League fixtures involving Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Ahead of Wednesday's clash at Villa Park, the punter was convinced Unai Emery's men could snatch all three points in their much-anticipated clash against Manchester City.

As well as putting the in-form side down to secure a surprise victory, they put money on Aston Villa to pick up the most corners and the most shots on target in each half.

The ambitious 200/1 bet played out as a second-half goal from Leon Bailey gave the home side a huge win in their fight for a top-four spot.

Manchester United, meanwhile, went on to secure a crucial win at Old Trafford as a brace from Scott McTominay helped them overcome Chelsea.

The punter backed United for the victory and put money on Erik ten Hag's side to bag the most corners in each half and most shots on target at 40/1. As a result, they won £4,120.50 from a 50p stake .

One fan commented on the below bet, saying: "I'd be buzzing winning this and so p****d off I didn't use the £2 free bet at the same time. Happy Xmas to the winner."

A second wrote: "Call me greedy but anything less than a quid I'd be constantly thinking why didn’t I stick Ā£1 on it," while a third commented: "That is ridiculous."

A fourth added: "Some people get all the luck in the world."

Earlier this week, one punter won an impressive 10-fold bet on Manchester City's 3-3 draw with Tottenham.

On X, formally known as Twitter, samuelhugh4 showed off his betting slip which had Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Heung Son-min to score or assist.

The bet also included Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Destiny Udogie and Yves Bissouma to commit over 1.5 fouls, Pedro Porro to commit over 0.5 fouls and Udogie and Rodri to be booked, all at 650/1.

A stake of 10p meant his overall winnings came to £65.10.
