Barcelona consult La Liga on possibility of re-signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

The Chelsea forward only left the Spanish giants in August but could return to Barcelona if they can find enough money for it.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's time at Chelsea could come to a very short end, despite the fact he can only play for one other club this season.

Aubameyang moved in the summer, with fans quick to point out that he would be doing so despite having an Arsenal tattoo inked on his arm.

It had only been six months since he departed the Emirates, in the fallout from losing the captaincy, in the wake of missing a game last January.

The Gunners happily let him go for free as he arrived at Barcelona, but just months later he was back in the capital of England for their rivals.

However, things haven't worked out at all for the 33-year-old, which might be down to the number nine shirt curse that has been handed to him.

Having scored 11 goals for Barca in 17 games in the second half of last season, Aubameyang has just one goal in nine Premier League games in the current campaign.

The Blues have struggled in general and have now signed Joao Felix until the end of the season, with the Atletico Madrid forward reportedly costing £9 million in loan fees.

That could mean Aubameyang leaving and, according to Gerard Romero, Barcelona have spoken to La Liga over the possibility of bringing him back.

The club needed to speak to the league about whether they'd be able to spend the money for his return, due to the wage budget they have for the season.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker played once for Xavi's team in the current campaign and that's enough to mean they're the only team outside of Chelsea he can play for during the campaign.

FIFA rules don't allow a player to play for more than two teams a season, so Barcelona and Chelsea are his only two options until the summer.

According to the report, the Catalan giants would have to get rid of someone before bringing him in, most likely Memphis Depay, who has been heavily linked with a departure, or Franck Kessie.

Kessie was one of the players who joined last summer, after his contract at AC Milan ended, but he has only started two league games so far.

An earlier report, from AS, claimed that Aubameyang is 'depressed' at Stamford Bridge and wants a return to Xavi's team as soon as possible, although he would have to take a pay cut if he is to walk through the doors at the Nou Camp again.

Most recently, the Gabon striker came on for a Premier League game against Manchester City early in the first half, after an injury to Raheem Sterling.

However he was taken off in the second half, having failed to make an impact on the game, something that Paul Merson thinks was breaking an unwritten rule.

The Blues form has been woeful this season and they find themselves in 10th place, having scored only 20 goals so far, the least in the top half by quite some distance.

Only seven teams in the whole of the Premier League have scored fewer goals than them, so it's no wonder they've signed Felix to help out.
