Manchester United were drawing 0-0 at half time yesterday, Marcus Rashford his young exciting striker hadn't done much wrong and Anthony Martial was on the left-wing and yet the Dutchman brought Ashley Young on to play up front. How has he not been sacked yet?

After the David Moyes error ended five years early United fans got excited by the arrival of Louis van Gaal and despite a slow start it seemed to be the right decision when the team qualified for the Champions League. However this season has been one disaster after another and Young may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

But should he still be in a job? Back in December the Red Devils were knocked out of the Champions League group stage and lost back-to-back Premier League games to relegation threatened Bournemouth and Norwich. Even with Jose Mourinho's shadow he survived any sacking.

However according to the Independent the reason LvG is still in work at Old Trafford is because of a clause in his contract that greatly reduces his compensation if the club aren't in the Champions League.

That would mirror the circumstances of David Moyes sacking. The former Everton boss wasn't given the boot from Old Trafford until the team could officially no longer qualify for the next season's Champions League and was 'only' entitled to £4.5million compensation despite the five years on his contract.

If money is the issue there's a lot of United fans who would probably chip in to get rid of the Dutchman.
