In the end it was results that mattered for Louis van Gaal, if he and his Manchester United team had finished in the top four last season then he might still be at Old Trafford, but his boring style of play made him unpopular anyway. Now he's too boring for a new job.

There were two short glimpse of good football for United fans during the Van Gaal reign, towards the end of his first season in charge at Old Trafford and at the beginning of the second as they went top in the first couple of weeks of the season. Outside of that it was a snoozefest that incited boredom and booing.

According to the Daily Mail LvG was actually one of the men on the shortlist for the Belgium job but missed out to former Everton boss Roberto Martinez basically because he was boring. The former Bayern boss met Belgian officials but they found his outlining of his philosophy "draining and exhausting."

Apparently the Belgian FA thought their young and talented group of players, who have so far failed to deliver on their 'Golden Generation' tag, wouldn't react well to the methodical methods of Van Gaal, who clearly failed to get his ideas through to Manchester United's players.

The report suggests that Martinez, who ended up getting the job, delivered a much more simple and straight to the point video on how he would perform the national team's fortunes in time for the World Cup in 2018.

Van Gaal is essentially so boring that a football association were willing to look past how bad at coaching defending Martinez is!
