Cristiano Ronaldo could run 100 metres in less than 12 seconds according to a Spanish athlete.

Angel David Rodriguez is captain of the Spanish athletics team and has revealed that he was three tenths of a second ahead of the Juventus forward in a race over 25 metres.

The Spaniard participated in training with 'CR7' during his time at Real Madrid and explained per AS how quickly Ronaldo could complete a 100 metre dash.

"I took three tenths from him [Ronaldo], which is quite a lot. If it was 100 metres, he may be able to get 11.60 [seconds]."

That means he would be approximately just over two seconds off Usain Bolt's world record time of 9.58 seconds.

Rodriguez, who is also known as 'El Pájaro' (The Bird), has 21 Spanish titles and he explained to 'At Home with Athletes' what went on during his time with the former Ballon d'Or holder.

"I was doing a report on race technique with Cristiano Ronaldo. You had to run in various styles to demonstrate differences in race technique between a sprinter and a footballer," he recalled.

"He is fast and very good at lateral movements. He clearly trains a lot."

Rodriguez revealed that Ronaldo managed to defeat him in a diagonal race, although it requires a different skill set to the one Rodriguez has.

"This was the trap they set for me, to start running diagonally. It's like making a sprinter play paddle tennis," he explained.

Rodriguez crossed paths with Ronaldo for a documentary called 'Cristiano Ronaldo: Tested to the Limit', in which they went toe-to-toe in a 30 metre sprint as well as other activities.

Ronaldo was 26 at the time of the documentary and at his physical peak.

It is impressive to see the Portugal international try his luck against other athletes to try and become the best he can.

Ronaldo has lost a yard of his explosive pace as he's aged but there is no doubt he is still in top physical condition at the age of 35.

He managed to run box to box against Napoli in a breathtaking 10 seconds back in September so it shows he still has raw intensity and power when needed.
