It was a day for angry pitch invasions by supporters yesterday.

Some West Ham fans entered the field of play during their 3-0 defeat to Burnley at the London Stadium, prompting captain Mark Noble to sling one to the floor, while the visiting players gave up their seats to young home fans on the bench because of the trouble in the stands - which all stems from Hammers' fans being incensed with the club's owners.

But over in Ligue One, Lille supporters took it to new extremes after their 1-1 home draw with Montpellier.

TV footage shows supporters storming the Stade Pierre-Mauroy pitch after another disappointing result which leaves the 2011 Ligue One champions in 19th place following a dire run of form.

With stewards outnumbered and powerless, around 200 supporters made their way onto the pitch, chanting "You're dirtying our jersey, you're dirtying our jersey," at the players.

But there have also been reports that striker Nicolas Pepe and defender Adam Soumaoro were assaulted by their own fans in the nasty turn of events.

While manager Christophe Galtier understands the frustrations of fans amid their current predicament, he deemed the antics from some sections of the fanbase to be out of order.

"They are fans who lost control, but they are also fans who are unhappy and sad," Galtier is quoted as saying by ESPN.

"I don't accept that my players are punched, that my players are treated this way. We will count the points at the end of the season. It's only one game."

Officials from the LFP, France's footballing governing body, are to look into the incidents on Thursday.
