It should come as no surprise that, with the January transfer window just two days away from opening and Jose Mourinho bemoaning the gulf between Manchester City's spending power and Manchester United's, that the Red Devils are getting linked with pretty much every high profile player in Europe.
The likes of Paulo Dybala, Antoine Griezmann and Jorginho have already had their names tossed around the Old Trafford rumour mill and now a Barcelona player has been added to the list.
The Mirror are today reporting that Blaugrana midfielder Andre Gomes is Manchester bound, with United reportedly 'closing in' on a £31 million deal for the Portuguese star.

The 24-year-old has struggled to settle at the Camp Nou since arriving from Valencia last year and could now be offered a route out of Catalonia with United allegedly interested in his signature.

Paulinho's arrival at Barca this summer and subsequent electric run of form has seen Gomes marginalised by manager Ernesto Valverde and now the former Benfica man is believed to be seeking more regular first team opportunities.

Gomes has turned out 62 times for Barca in his one-and-a-half seasons at the Camp Nou but has yet to win over the Blaugrana fanbase and, with another move for Philippe Coutinho impending either next month or in the summer, it's likely that his chances will be reduced even further should the Brazilian arrive in Catalonia.
Jose Mourinho had looked at Gomes over the summer but ended up making Nemanja Matic his only midfield reinforcement after bringing the Serb in from Chelsea in a £40 million deal.

However, with Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick both likely to leave the club over the next six months, the United manager will need to bolster his options in the middle of a park, which may prompt a move for Gomes next month.
