Everton have broken their silence over the club's failed deadline day move to sign Moussa Sissokofrom Newcastle - after the midfielder appeared to choose Tottenham at the last minute.
The French international was at the centre of a tug-of-war between the two clubs as the 11pm deadline loomed large on the horizon, and he appeared to be heading to Goodison Park for £30 million at one point.
But with just minutes remaining, Sissoko was a Spurs player and was pictured with the club's shirt, as per the photo above.

But Everton's new majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri now claims it was the Merseyside club who opted to pullout of the deal at the last moment - and cited James McCarthy's role at the reason:
McCarthy had been linked with a move away from Everton, most notably to Celtic, but ended up staying with the Toffees.
