The odds for the 2021 Ballon d'Or have been revealed ahead of the award's eagerly anticipated return.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the coveted prize was not handed out by France Football and many felt Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski was "robbed" after an incredible year.

The Polish bagsman did collect the FIFA Men's Best Player award but all eyes will be on who wins the next Ballon d'Or.

There's still a long way to go before the winner is crowned, especially with two major international tournaments taking place this season.

But Spanish outlet MARCA have looked at the odds just less than three months in 2021 and it's PSG and France star Kylian Mbappe who leads the way at the moment.

The 22-year-old came fourth in the Ballon d'Or rankings in 2018 after playing an integral role in France's World Cup win and with 26 goals in 33 appearances already this term - including six in seven Champions League games - he's the favourite to scoop the gong.

Lewandowski is the second favourite having continued his fine form in 2020, while Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are third and eighth respectively after both were eliminated from the Champions League in the round of 16 for the first time in 16 years.

The pair have dominated the Ballon d'Or awards, with eleven of the last twelve winners being one of the two phenomenons.

But with early exits from the Champions League and it looking unlikely that their sides will win their respective leagues, the end of an era could be here.

Neymar is fourth in the rankings, with Premier League chief playmakers Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne following behind closely in fifth and sixth respectively.

The specimen that is Erling Haaland finds himself in seventh after banging in 31 goals in 29 goals in all competitions this term, while Spurs and England star Harry Kane is an outside shout in ninth place.

Here is the list with odds:

1. Kylian Mbappe (3.5 per euro bet)
2. Robert Lewandowski: 6.5
3. Cristiano Ronaldo: 7
4. Neymar: 11
5. Kevin De Bruyne: 11
6. Bruno Fernandes: 11
7. Erling Haaland: 13
8. Lionel Messi: 15
9. Harry Kane: 26
10. Luis Suarez: 26
