Liverpool smashed Slovenian club NK Maribor for seven last night as they topped Champions League Group E with a convincing win against the PrvaLiga outfit.

Goals from Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah secured the biggest away win by an English team in the history of the European Cup.

One of those goalscorers, Mohamed Salah, was only on the pitch for 56 minutes, but he deservedly picked up the Man of the Match award after scoring twice and assisting Roberto Firmino in the opening minutes of the tie.

Bringing his fine run of form from the Premier League to European competition, Salah gave Liverpool fans a performance to remember, including this incredible burst of pace that lead to Liverpool's opener.

As you can see in the footage below, when the Maribor player lost possession with a stray pass, Salah reminded us of his lightning quick pace.

He surely has to be one of the fastest players in world football?

Seconds after he picked up the loose ball, the Egypt international showed great composure by firing a low cross into the path of Firmino, who slotted away from close range.

Shortly after the final whistle, Jurgen Klopp expressed his delight with Liverpool's convincing win on Tuesday night, praising his sides record breaking feat:

"I was told about the record after the game and I didn't know," said Klopp via BBC Sport

"The wonderful history of this club can feel like a backpack at times so it is nice to write our own good piece of the history. It will be difficult to beat that record. It is quite rare to win 7-0 but it showed we did unbelievably well."

Not only did they secure the biggest away win by an English team in the history of the European Cup, but Liverpool managed to score four goals in the first half - the first English club to score four goals in a first half, Champions League away game.

It's a big ask, but can Liverpool challenge for Champions League glory this season?
