65 days after being sacked as England manager, 'Big Sam' Allardyce is now favourite for the Crystal Palace job after Alan Pardew was sacked following a string of poor results.

Allardyce, who was secretly filmed by journalists discussing how to 'get around' the organisation's rules prohibiting the third-party ownership of players, is reportedly in the process of becoming the new Palace manager.

The former Newcastle and Bolton manager's representatives 'will meet with Crystal Palace in the next 24 hours', according to Sky Sports.

The news emerged just a matter of minutes after it was announced that Pardew was sacked,

It has been revealed that compensation for Pardew's sacking is £4.8m and Sam Allardyce was ready to take over two weeks ago.

Allardyce's last job at club-level was with Premier League side Sunderland and enjoyed a relatively successful time at the Stadium of Light before becoming the England manager on the 22nd July 2016.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said the following on the sacking of Pardew via their official website:

"I would like to put on record our sincere gratitude for the tremendous service Alan has given us, both in his time here as Manager and previously as a player.

"Following a fantastic second half of 2014/15, the 2015/16 season culminated in only narrowly missing out on winning the FA cup as well as securing our Premier League place for a record breaking fourth time. During his tenure Alan's hard work and dedication were without question, he has improved so many areas of the Club and we wish him the very best for the future.

"With games now coming thick and fast over the holiday period the Club are hoping to put someone in place as quickly as possible but have nothing to say about a replacement at this time."
