Roy Hodgson Wades In On Jamie Vardy Controversy

Dive or no dive?

Last weekend Jon Moss wrote himself into the Jamie Vardy with the controversial sending off of the Leicester City striker. Some called dive, some foul and some thought it was neither, there was nothing Moss could have done to make it the right decision in everyone's eyes. But what does the England boss think?

Vardy is set to miss this weekend's game against Swansea as the Foxes continue to hunt down the Premier League title but there could be a longer suspension for the league's joint second top scorer because of his reaction to Moss.

However England manager Roy Hodgson doesn't think that the Leicester striker should have been sent off in the first place and has even defended his reaction saying:

'Vardy got sent off at the weekend, but once again I will go out on a limb. I don't see that. I don't see that as a dive. I think he was unbalanced. I don't think it was a penalty either. I think he was unbalanced, running at that speed.

'I think there was a very slight contact with the defender, who was trying to cover. I think he went down because he was unbalanced. I don't think he was trying to dive.

'But of course all the pundits I hear say he was trying to dive, "look how he dived". I don't see it. For me I wouldn't blame him for that. I sympathise with him. I think he was very, very unlucky.'

On the reaction Hodgson did say that Vardy was just acting like a human adding: "When you get sent off for something where he obviously feels like I feel - there is no doubt he is of that opinion - he has had to swallow the fact that he has been made to leave the field. Then, of course, he has reacted like sometimes human beings react.

"He hasn't just said to the ref, "that is all right, I understand", shake hands and "have a good game". He has called him a few names. But he is a human being and that can happen."

It's an interesting stance for Hodgson to take so publically with the hearing over whether Vardy will serve longer than his one match ban for two yellow cards yet to be heard.

It could be a huge blow to Leicester's title hopes if Vardy misses any more than the Swansea game at the weekend with Manchester United at Old Trafford to come after for Claudio Ranieri's side.
