Roberto Mancini is being eyed up for the AC Milan job.

The Italian only returned to management in June and has guided Russian side Zenit St Petersburg to 17 wins and eight draws in his 31 games in charge.

But according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, AC Milan want to bring him back to management in his homeland on a permanent basis.

Rossoneri legend Gennaro Gattuso is currently in interim charge after replacing Vincenzo Montella but things haven't really improved under his stewardship, hence the rumoured approach for Mancini.

Reports say the 53-year old isn't entirely happy at Zenit, and though he is synonymous with AC's rivals Inter, he does have links to two key board members on the red and black side of Milan.

Directors Marco Fassone and Massimiliano Mirabelli both worked for Inter when Mancini was in his first stint with the club, when he won three Serie A titles in a row.

Milan spent big in the summer and many thought their summer business would put them right up there as title contenders after a few years of mediocrity.

But at the time of writing they are currently in 11th in Serie A, 21 points behind league leaders Napoli and 16 behind rivals inter, who are in fourth.

Is Mancini the right man to take AC forward?

Sound off in the comments.
