It would be a good favour...

Arsenal legend Robert Pires has urged Arsenal to move for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.

The 22-year old, a big money arrival from Monaco in 2015, has struggled for game-time of late - with the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January pushing him down Jose Mourinho's pecking order and reducing him to a bit-part role.

There have been reports that Martial has rejected a contract extension from United, which will no doubt alert several top clubs across Europe.

And two-time Premier League winner Pires feels his compatriot would be a perfect fit at Arsenal, where he would link up with former teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

"I'm a big fan of Anthony Martial," he admitted in an interview with Bwin.

"I don't know why he isn't playing more for Manchester United and [Jose] Mourinho needs to show more confidence in him. I would welcome him at Arsenal!"

Martial was one of the players linked with the Gunners as part of that Sanchez swap deal, but stayed put at Old Trafford, where he has a deal until 2019.

However, as per The Times, the former Lyon man wasn't happy about not being able to discuss the move further.

"It is understood that Martial was disappointed at not having the chance to discuss a move to Arsenal in January, when the London club raised the possibility of including the forward in the swap deal that led to Henrikh Mkhitaryan leaving Old Trafford instead," Paul Hirst.

Juventus, Tottenham and Barcelona have all been touted as potential destinations for Martial. The France international has 36 goals in 134 appearances for United, with 17 coming in his debut season with the club.
