Real Madrid Could Have To Give Barcelona A Guard Of Honour

They meet again on May 6.

The date for the second El Clasico in La Liga this season has been set, with Barcelona hosting Real Madrid on May 6 at the Nou Camp.

Ernesto Valverde's side made easy work of Real at the Bernabeu last week, with goals from Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Aleix Vidal giving the league leaders a 3-0 away win and extending their lead over Real to 14 points - a huge number to make up even at this point in the season.

Barca are nine points ahead of Atletico Madrid, who are in second place, but with the way they are planning and the position they are in, it's pretty much a given that the La Liga trophy will be returning to Barcelona.

And if all goes well for the Blaugrana, we could well see a situation where Real have to give their bitter rivals a guard of honour ahead of the next Clasico.

The meeting on May 6 is the third to last game in the season and you wouldn't bet against Barca having the title sewed up prior to the game.

Just imagine Real having to applaud Barca as they walk out before the feisty fixture?! It would absolutely kill Cristiano Ronaldo and the crew.

In fact, Ronaldo wanted Barca to give Real a Ballon d'Or a guard of honour at the Bernabeu on December 23. Los Blancos had just won the Club World Cup in the UAE and CR7 wanted the achievement to be marked.

"It would be nice and I would like Barcelona to make for us the guard of honour," he said.

But straight away, Barcelona made it clear there would be no guard of honour, with Luis Suarez playing it down before the game.

"That guard of honour is a new thing for me since arriving in Spain," Suarez was quoted as saying.

"I know it is said that in the rules if you are also in that competition which your opponent won, then you do it as a sign of respect.

"But on this occasion, we had nothing to do with the Club World Cup so we don't have to do it. That's the decision the club made."

Will Barca be champions before the next El Clasico rolls around?
