Managers To Receive Yellow And Red Cards In The 2018/19 Season

Game changer.

The FA will introduce yellow and red cards for managers in the EFL and cup games from the 2018/19 season, for behaviour that falls foul of the referee's rule book on the sideline.

The cards will be shown to managers and coaches for behaviour-related-incidents on the touchline this season.

The addition of cards for managers will be trialed this upcoming season in the Football League, National League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy.

However, the Premier League will not participate in the initiative, with misbehaving managers only receiving a verbal caution from the referee.

If a manager receives four yellow cards they would receive a one-match ban, eight would be a two-match ban, 12 a three-match ban, with 16 resulting in an FA misconduct charge.

Previously, referees only had the ability to warn managers, before dismissing them to the stands for more severe outbursts.

"This isn't about creating drama, this is about creating clarity, so everybody inside the stadium knows what is happening," said EFL Chief Executive Shaun Harvey, "You will be seeing it in the EFL as a first and it will be an interesting experience to see how it works."

During the 2017/18 season, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger served a three-match touchline ban and was fined £40,000 for his behaviour towards match official, Mike Dean, as he disagreed with a penalty decision.
