Luke Shaw Reveals He 'Almost Lost His Leg' In Shocking Press Conference

Luke Shaw may have struggled for minutes last season, with that horrific double leg fracture against PSV Eindhoven in 2015 still haunting his career, but the left-back has began to force his way into contention this season.

It's common knowledge that Jose Mourinho has questioned Shaw's fitness in recent months, as well as his overall commitment and attitude.

But the Manchester United left-back made a real statement in pre-season training this summer and has started well.

Things could have been all so different for the 23-year-old, though, as revealed in his latest press conference. Shaw revealed that he almost lost his leg after that serious leg injury in 2015:

"I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about stopping playing," he said after his first England call-up in months.

"I had a lot of complications with my leg and that was the really hard moment for me in my career.

"No-one knows but I was really close to actually losing my leg. I never knew that until six months later when the doctor told me.

"At the time, they were thinking about flying me back and if I'd have flown back, I would probably have lost my leg because of the blood clots and stuff.

"I've got - I don't want to talk about it too much - two scars down the side of my leg where they had to cut it open and pull them out because of how severe it was.

"But I don't really care about that any more. I feel really strong and my right leg is exactly as it was before my leg break."

According to Metro, Manchester United's staff have been 'astounded' by Shaw's overall fitness levels as he bids for a first team place.

In pre-season, he topped the charts in different checks and it looks like he's already reaping the benefits. Last month, Shaw responded to a Twitter user earlier by saying "Am not finished yet" as he bids to make the left-back position his.

Is this the season Luke Shaw makes that left-back spot his own at Old Trafford? He's already proving so many doubters wrong.
