Luke Shaw admits it's hard to stay positive at Manchester United following their crushing 2-0 defeat to West Ham United on Saturday.

Man United suffered their eighth league defeat of the season at the London Stadium as West Ham ran out 2-0 winners.

Second-half goals from Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus saw the Red Devils lose yet another league game.

Man United, who fall to eighth place in the table, made unwanted history in wake of their defeat to David Moyes' side.

After the result, Erik ten Hag baffled fans with his post-match interview while Piers Morgan took aim at the Dutchman as he referenced Cristiano Ronaldo.

Shaw also spoke to reporters following the game against West Ham as he gave a bleak post-match interview, admitting it's hard to stay positive amid their slump.

"It’s tough to think what’s going on," he told TNT Sports. "I think maybe we’re just not creating enough, and when we do, on the other hand, we’re not clinical.

"Maybe it could be a lack of confidence at the moment, sometimes that’s normal in football, it happens. Like I said, we have to try and keep staying positive."

Shaw added: “We’ve got another big game coming up against Aston Villa, so we can’t feel sorry for ourselves, we have to pick ourselves up and go again. It’s a home game, and we can’t keep dropping points, we have to win games.”

Asked if it is becoming more difficult to stay positive, the 28-year-old replied: “Yeah, it is (hard to stay positive), but it’s our job. We have to stay positive. This is Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and like I said before, it’s not good enough.

"We know that, and we have to dig deep, look ourselves in the mirror, and question ourselves and go from there.”

Man United, who were coming off a hard-fought draw against Liverpool at Anfield, resume their faltering league campaign on Boxing Day when they host Unai Emery's Aston Villa.
