Jamie Carragher Couldn't Have Been More Wrong About Paul Pogba In September

Jamie Carragher Couldn't Have Been More Wrong About Paul Pogba In September

"If Mourinho goes, you'll won't see a new Paul Pogba. You won't, I can assure Man Utd fans, you won't."

Even Paul Pogba's biggest critic will concede that the 25-year-old has been running the show for Manchester United of late.

Given the freedom to express himself in attacking areas the Frenchman has come out of his shell under Solskjaer, showing glimpses of class, most recently against Chelsea where he both scored and assisted

Let's cut to the chase things have changed dramatically for Pogba since Jose Mourinho left the club.

I mean, just look at these stats.

Pogba's relationship with Mourinho was far from ideal and at the start of the season, he was criticised by many when footage emerged of a training ground bust up with his former boss.

Back in September, pundit Jamie Carragher commented on the footage and questioned whether he was "worth the hassle."

The former Liverpool defender went on to claim that the idea of seeing a "new Pogba" if Mourinho leaves was near on impossible:

"In terms of Paul Pogba, I don't know if he's worth the hassle for what he gives on the pitch." he told Sky Sports.

"There's an idea that there's one or the other. So if [Jose] Mourinho goes, you'll see a new Paul Pogba. You won't, I can assure Man United fans, you won't.

"Nobody plays for two years and all of a sudden there's a change of manager and you're a new player.

"We've seen what Paul Pogba is as a player.

"He's not as good as he thinks he is. He's got talent, but his big problem is his understanding of the game. It's been a problem since he came, and it hasn't changed now."

Of course, Pogba has flourished under the Solskjaer regime, proving many of his doubters wrong in the meantime.

To be fair to Carragher he responded to the comments made in September after the Chelsea game on Monday night, saying he was wrong about the Frenchman:

"He's been a revelation since OGS came in because he's basically let him play without defending.

"I didn't see this turn around so I have no problem saying I was wrong."

Thoughts on Paul Pogba's season so far? Is he one of the best midfielders in world football right now?
