Napoli's Dries Mertens Has Been Doing Some Incredible Charity Work

What an absolute hero...

Dries Mertens is a class act on the pitch, having scored 20 goals for Maurizio Sarri's joyful Napoli side. But arguably his best work comes away from the pitch.

According to Corriere Del Mezzogiorno, after playing in a 3-1 away victory over Torino in December, the Belgian returned to Naples the same evening. While out, he and his pals then took it upon themselves to feed those living on the street across the city by handing them margherita pizzas that he had bought and cut into slices.

The story gets even better though, as the former PSV man wasn't doing this for attention; he had gone out in disguise to avoid being recognised and the story hasn't emerged until now.

But it's just one of many wonderful selfless acts the 30-year old has produced. He collects clothes for disadvantaged and underprivileged kids in Naples adopts abandoned dogs with his wife, financially supports a dog shelter and sends medicine to Venezuela.

Incredible work from Mertens, who is not only a wonderful footballer but a brilliant human being. Take a bow, Dries.
