Louis van Gaal may have left Manchester United with the FA Cup added to his incredibly CV but the Dutchman actually left the club with his reputation damaged. Now his former assistant has revealed how little his boss actually did.

In two years under Van Gaal fans at Old Trafford were mainly treated to turgid and slow football that brought one season in the Champions League but another without.

Fans were treated to a record number of 0-0s in the first half under LvG and booing was often substituted for snoring during matches.

At one point it was even reported that senior players, the likes of Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick, had even been to see the manager to complain about how much backwards passing they were doing.

Now Van Gaal's assistant Albert Stuivenberg has told the Mirror how little his boss did:

"The role Louis gave me at Old Trafford was unique. It was extraordinary that he gave me so much responsibility. He gave me his complete trust.

"At United, I was doing the training sessions for the selected first team before games. I was fully in charge.

"I was doing all the pre-match team talks, and I did the post-match talk with the team and individual players."

That pretty much leaves Van Gaal with picking the team, insulting the media and thanking saxophonists as his only roles in the team.

Stuivenberg's time at United came to an end when Van Gaal was sacked at the end of last season and he is now in charge at Genk and could face his former club in the Europa League.

Thanking his former boss the Dutchman said, "Louis gave me the opportunity to develop myself at the top level and lead in so many ways."

No wonder he's doing well as a head coach, it sound like he was doing that job at United.
