That'll put them off tonight's game...

Some Liverpool fans made desperate attempts to give their side an advantage for the Champions League semi-final second leg tonight - by setting off fireworks at the hotel Barcelona are staying at.

The Blaugrana, who take a 3-0 lead from the first leg into tonight's game at Anfield, are taking base at the Hilton Hotel in Liverpool.

A section of supporters found out where the La Liga champions are staying, bought a load of fireworks and decided to make some serious noise overnight.

As per the Liverpool Echo, there were reports of bangs in the area being heard a 2am in the morning, with the noise still going on at 4:30.

Videos of the firework-setting from different angles have been circulating online, with one clip featuring a man saying "wake up call for Mr Messi" at the end.

It doesn't appear to have affected Messi and co, however, as a spokesperson for the Hilton told the Liverpool Echo that there were no noise complaints filed.

The actions from Liverpool supporters are an imitation of what Ajax supporters have been doing for any big team who travels to Amsterdam.

Last month, several Ajax fans tried to prevent Juventus stars from getting a good night's sleep at the Van der Valk Hotel for their first leg at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Fans of the Amsterdam club did the exact same thing in the previous round when they disrupted Real Madrid at 3am with a slew of rockets and catherine wheels.

Four of Ajax's ultras were arrested by Dutch police as a result.
