Lionel Messi has five Ballon d'Ors to his name, has scored a ridiculous 643 goals for club and country and regularly leaves us in awe by doing magical things with a football.

Many say that there's nothing Messi cannot do because of how complete a footballer he is - and the fact he produces time and time again.

Yet if you were to pinpoint a slight weakness in the Barcelona star's game, it would have to be his penalty-taking abilities. Messi has scored 79 penalties in his career and is generally the first-choice taker for Barcelona and Argentina, but considering the amount of spot-kicks he has had, coupled with the ability he possesses, his record isn't all that great.

Out of the 103 he's taken, Messi has missed 24 - the latest being a poor effort saved by Iceland's Hannes Thor Halldorsson when the Argentine ace had the chance to put his country 2-1 up in the Group D opener.

It continues a pretty drab trend from the spot for Messi of late, as he has now missed four of his last seven.

Social media was awash with reaction to Messi's penalty record after he failed to convert in the high-pressure scenario in Moscow:

Messi and Argentina were frustrated by a spirited Iceland side and now turn attentions to their game against Croatia next Thursday.
