Lionel Messi missed an incredible opportunity to clinically finish off an easy chance and seal a comfortable 3-1 win against Slavia Prague in the Champions League.

The reigning Spanish champions secured a 2-1 win at the Sinobo on Wednesday night and Messi did open the scoring for his side in the third minute.

But the Barcelona captain, 32, could easily have bagged his brace in the second half in an unbelievable opportunity.

During the 74th minute, the ball was played into the box and was passed into the path of Messi, who only had the 'keeper to beat.

However, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner tried to lob Ondrej Kolar with a cheeky finish.

But the 25-year-old Slavia Prague shot-stopper was fortunate to see Messi's effort fail to find the back of the net only a couple of yards out.

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde couldn't believe that the Argentine superstar missed the chance as he put his hands on his head in disbelief.

Slavia Prague, who are in the so-called Champions League 'Group of Death,' fought hard against Barcelona and pulled level in the second half through Jan Boril.

Lukas Masopust's pass from 16 yards found its way to the 28-year-old left-back, who poked the ball past Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The reigning Czech champions were unable to walk away with a point as Messi unlocked their backline when his free-kick found Luis Suarez at the back post.

The Barcelona striker's cross-shot bounced off Slavia Prague's Peter Olayinka into the back of the net.

Barcelona have moved three points clear at the top of Group F after Inter Milan sealed a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund at the San Siro.

Inter Milan and Dortmund are level on points at four apiece, while Slavia Prague are bottom of Group F with only one point.

Valverde's men will return to La Liga action next Tuesday when they host Real Valladolid at the Camp Nou.
