Shocking Penalty Stat Involving Ederson And Petr Cech Emerges

Ederson saved his third penalty in City colours last night...

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson did something Petr Cech has never been able to do at the Emirates.

The Brazilian claimed his 17th clean sheet of the season in the 3-0 win over Arsenal, with City completely outclassing the Gunners in the first half and scoring three of the best goals you will see all season.

In the second half, the runaway leaders, weren't as free-flowing but Arsenal spurned their big chance to pull one back when Henrikh Mkhitaryan was fouled by Nicolas Otamendi and the referee pointed to the spot.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with his straight run up, stepped up but saw his effort saved by Ederson for the second season running after the 24-year old denied him in the Benfica-Dortmund Champions League clash last term.

Ederson's penalty save was his third in a City shirt and in guessing right to palm away Aubameyang's spot-kick, he has made more penalty saves at the Emirates than Cech, who has a big fat zero.

Since joining from Chelsea, Cech has yet to make a single penalty save.

Of course, from a goalkeeper's perspective, penalties are a bit of lottery - but Cech in particular, as good a goalkeeper as he has been, has had great difficulty when it comes to twelve yards.

In fact, his last 15 penalties have all gone past him and he's dived the wrong way on 12 occasions - with his former colleague Eden Hazard the most recent player to get the better of him from the spot.

You have to go as far back as October 2014, in a 6-0 Chelsea win over Slovenian side NK Maribor, to find his last penalty save.

Chelsea fans will remember that Cech saved two penalties in the Champions Legaue final shoot-out triumph over Bayern Munich in 2012 but that seems a very long time ago...
