Real Madrid's Match Among Weekend La Liga Fixtures That Could Be Postponed

2022 World Cup is in Qatar, enough said!

The weather this weekend is supposed to be unseasonably warm all over the place, well I live in Manchester so that inevitably means about 17 degrees and rain, but it also could mean that there's less football in Spain this week.

After only being three games into the season and already having to have a couple of weeks off for the international break it looks like quite a lot of La Liga games could be wiped out this weekend because of a heatwave in Spain, including Real Madrid's match.

Temperatures in the country are set to get up to 40C this weekend and La Liga president Javier Tebas doesn't think that games should be able to go on in those circumstances so games, especially those being played in the afternoon, are under threat. Speaking to Spanish radio station Cope Tebas said:

"If the temperature [at the weekend] reaches 40 degrees we could postpone some La Liga games. You cannot play a game of football with temperatures of 36, 37 or 38 degrees.

"We have discussed the heat issue, not just because of this weekend but because of the previous rounds. Real Madrid played their last game against Celta [on Aug. 27] with a temperature of 32 degrees.

"The problem has been that, in the evenings, the temperature hasn't dropped much.

"We have spoken to the referees' committee to make sure the players can drink water to cope with the conditions."

Drinks breaks have become the norm during games played in warm countries and are often seen in pre season friendlies and were also used during some games at the World Cup in 2014 but postponing games due to temperature would be a new one.

It all serves as a stark reminder that the World Cup in six years time is due to be held in Qatar! Fortunately they've made the decision to move the tournament to December when it's a bit cooler, although the decision to move the tournament to later in the year is a whole other fuck up!
