Cristiano Ronaldo's tournament finally came to life in the last group game and he continued the upward curve by helping set up Ricardo Quaresma for Portugal's winner in extra time of their Last 16 game against Croatia. However the forward didn't celebrate at full time.

When Quaresma scored, following Ronaldo's shot being saved, the Real Madrid star ran off to celebrate with teammate and the rest of his countrymen however it wasn't the same a few minutes later when the final whistle went.

And website Radio Sarajevo revealed that rather than be with his countrymen celebrating, having beaten the much fancied Croats, he was instead consoling his fellow Los Blancos player, Luka Modric. On the moment of winning the match CR7 said:

"Of course, I am happy that we beat Croatia. However, I couldn't celebrate on the field because my brother Luka Modric was crying. It is my duty to comfort my brother".

At the final whistle the 30 year old midfielder was clearly very upset and was seen in tears having slumped to the ground. Croatia were very highly fancied to win the match and potentially make the final especially being on the easier side of the draw after topping their group ahead of Spain.

Ronaldo wasn't the only Real Madrid player who went to console his club mate with Portugal's central defender Pepe also seen consoling his friend after the match had finished.

Portugal move into the quarterfinals where they will meet Poland on Thursday in Marseille with the winner facing either Belgium or Wales for a place in the final.
