Chelsea Want To SIgn One Of Mourinho's Many Manchester United Outcasts

Sloppy seconds?

Down the years there's been a fair few trade-offs between Chelsea and Manchester United with one willingly selling the other players of little or no use.

You should all of course recall how Alex Stepney was surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge prior to becoming a key cog in Sir Matt Busby's fabled side of the late 1960s.

And who can forget United reciprocating that favour by graciously allowing the awful Mal Donaghy to move to south-west London when the Blues played in front of two men and a dog during the bleak early 90s.

Not long after that Mark Hughes made the pilgrimage from north to south, as did Mark Bosnich and Juan Sebastian Veron before Juan Mata restored some parity by going the other way.

Now it's Chelsea's turn again to sign a reject from their rivals, with Antonio Conte eyeing up a move for Matteo Darmian according to the usually unreliable CalcioMercato.

The Italian international has his name engraved firmly in Jose Mourinho's bad books, and as such will be allowed to leave Old Trafford in January.

A host of Serie A sides are rumoured to be after the 26-year-old defender, but Conte knows the former Torino man from his time in charge of the Azzurri and is said to be fond of his versatility across defence.

Will it ever come to fruition? Who knows, but we've missed speculative transfer rumours since the deadline day window SLAMMED SHUT, so thought we'd give this one some air time.

Don't shoot the messenger, folks.
